Two years later I won a scholarship to study at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. I graduated in summer 2006 with a degree in socio-cultural Anthropology (major) and French (extended minor). Two of my major research papers concerned the politics of religion in Laos, and Montenegrin collective memory of the war in Croatia. I've traveled a lot, especially in and around Southeast Asia and East Asia, and in North America. I volunteered for the World Peace Forum held in Vancouver in 2006, and on that occasion I acted as the interpreter for the Chairman of the Sarajevo City Council at the Mayors For Peace and the International Peace Messenger Cities conference.
I've been engaged with several NGOs, notably as a youth coordinator at a school for socially underprivileged youth, or as an English teacher for underpriviledged youth in Hong Kong,Thailand and Laos. I'm currently employed as a Project Manager at Youth Culture Centre Juventas, and I'm in charge of two capacity building projects with local NGOs that assist marginalized youth.
As a project manager at YCC Juventas, I wish to bring together youth from the former repuclics of Yugoslavia, so that they can exchange experiences and learn form each other. Most youth did not directly participate in the conflicts, but they received an emotional baggage from their parents and their immediate surroundings which biases them towards different interpretations of the war and makes them less sensitive to the suffering others endured. I would use the knowledge I would acquire as a participant in Nansen virtual school to encourage more openness to other points of view, and create conditions for cooperation among the youth in the region.
